Been trying for 3-4 days to get consistent lift readings. Before I toss in the towel and say close enough, can You post pics of the fixture you used to measure your lift.

I used something very similar to this:

I bolted a steel plate to the head intake face, and then used my dial gauge on an arm with a magnetic base. I also cycled the crank through a complete turn after making any changes before measuring lift.

You want to be sure that the indicator is parallel to the valve stem.

I'm kinda cheep, so here's mine, bought dial indicator off Amazon & fabed the wood block. Had a metal angle piece in my junk pile
Had to position indicator tip carefully on the retainer:
