I see a number 18 towards the bottom, and visible from the back of the car.

Lyle, your rear Bilsteins have a coil over set up, correct? Could there be a number hiding under the outer threaded sleeve?
..also, your car is set up with a V8 and Porsche 6 speed… would that make since then that the rear shocks are the Heavy Duty bilstein? Or since they’re now leaking, perhaps they should be?

How do I get those slid up to see if there is a number under them?
Literati914
Probably gonna take a bit of disassembly, but there may be a set screw holding the sleeve… but even at full extension the sleeve may not move up high enough for you to be able to tell. Not a big deal really though, you could pull a shock and break it down, re-install in about an hour I’m sure.

Those numbers at the bottom that are etched, are not consistent with any of the modern numbers .. except the ‘179’ part, which does seem to be the common theme with bilsteins for the 914 - that’s what I’ve noticed anyway.
