I think this muffler tip is from a late 1980s BMW (528 or 533 maybe?). Bought it at the BMW dealer back in the mid-1990s. IIRC, it was a little too long, so I shortened it a little with a pipe cutter. The rolled end was similar to the ones I saw on 911s back in the early 70s.

The tip slips over the tailpipe; two "dimples" on the underside provide a friction fit. I drilled a small hole through one dimple and drove in a small stainless screw "just in case." The tip has been on the car for at least 25 years now, so the chrome isn't as pretty as it ones was.

Sorry, I couldn't find a part number.

They have been NLA for a long time. I found 4 and sold all of them.

Thanks, good call. Will check out the BMW Tip.

The muffler tip for a 912 is 5mm smaller than a 911....it’s 55mm. I had my 2.0L muffler end pipe slightly expanded...the 912 tip now fits with fraction.

Hello,
Very nice car, looking into the BMW 528 Tip. Will check out the 912 Tip also. Thanks for the response.

I have a chrome tip on the old banana muffler but it is not flared, and looks quite restrictive. It is tacked on and looks original. Is that the way they came? I can't imagine that is the case but... VW and all. Click to view attachment

And that is part of why I have an ansa on there now...

Not for a pipe organ.
