I am going to install, from scratch a VDO temp and pressure guage on my 71 2.0.

I'm guessing there are some tutorials around here, but I can't seem to locate them/

I have the gauges, the new sending units and some wiring so far.

thanks in advance!

Greetings - can you be more specific about what gauges and senders you have?
advman89
Doh! that would probably be helpful.

It's a 71 with a 2.0.
No center console or additional gauges were in the car when I got it.

All are 2 1/16th"

VOLT:
12 Volt VDO Gauge (332-041)

Temp Sensor:

300ºF (310-012)
Sending Unit: (323-005)
Wiring Kit (323-701)

Oil Pressure:
VDO (350-040)
Sending Unit 80psi (360-006)

The light wiring looks pretty straight forward.

I did see where some folks had run the oil pressure sending unit remote, but don't know if I'll need to do that or not.

Thanks in advance!

No worries - so you're adding a console?

From what I've read - hopefully others will chime in here - the best/most accurate way for the Voltmeter is to go straight to the battery with the sender line. The wire doesn't need to be very big.

Have you decided on an approach for running wiring to the engine compartment - or is that part of your question? Here's a link to some input on that: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=316570

Do you have a "taco plate" for your temp sender?
There is OEM/Stock or there is this:
https://914werke.com/shop/ols/products/taco-plate-assembly

Oil Pressure - I'd suggest reading this and using your stock oil pressure sender for the idiot light and then adding a single pole (or the one you have and just use the gauge side) for the gauge.

https://vwparts.aircooled.net/VDO-80psi-Oil...m-p/v360006.htm

and there's this:

You will need to run the oil pressure sender off of a remote hose - senders other than the stock one that controls the dash idiot light won't fit through the tin.

I haven't done this yet, but i've been planning it and collecting parts - to me, an ideal setup is the 42 Draft Designs kit is great - but NLA. I found one that a lister here had and it's waiting to go in. Perhaps you can find one: https://store.ngpracing.com/42-draft-design...cation-kit.html

Hopefully this gets you started and some others will chime in (and correct me!)

Thank you for all this!

I'll start diving in soon.

VOLT-Yep. Was planning on going straight to the battery--through the tunnel.

I do have a Taco Plate!

Pressure...I have seen numerous examples of remote hookups. I need to gather those parts next, apparently. I asked the vendor if I needed anything else and was told no...but whatever, I'll order up some more bits.

Thank you!!
