I have the same or very similar pump. I hate it ! If it sounds like a duck and looks like a duck it must be a duck . Let me know if you find a quiet one.
So the duck sound is normal for this pump? I believe it's a Bosch or at least looks like the Bosch pumps online.
Who can recommend a quiet pump?
Airtex E8445. It puts out the proper pressure and volume for the FI on a 914. It even works on the 4.0L 964 motor. I used an early 911 fuel pump mount with rubber isolators and it is quiet as a mouse hiding from a cat. And it can be purchased from FLAPS for about $125.00. The outlet fitting is the same size as the fuel lines in a 914.
I cut the nipple off the end of the brass intake fitting and fit one of these on there:
It's a carburetor fuel filter for a 70s ford. But the intake size is the same as the big fuel tank suction fitting on a 914. It protects the pump and works as an adapter.
I have run one on Betty's car for over 20 years with only one replacement. And I really didn't need to. The pump started making noise, and I thought it was going bad. Turns out the rubber mount broke and it was hitting the metal of the car. The pump was fine. I just replaced it because I was already in there.
I have two spares, but never needed them. The one I removed from Betty's car now has lines and wires with alligator clamps on the wires. I use it as a fuel transfer pump to empty a 914 tank before I pull it.
Hope that helps.
