I've had mine on for a year. Really hard to pull to unlock the doors. I have cleaned and oiled, but still hard. Few times I had to roll down window and open from the outside. I just found the answer...will take some pictures and post this afternoon. Best, Mark

IMO, The RS pulls are never going to work well in a 914 due to the need for the pull force to change 90 degrees to effectively work on the 914 latch rod.

I'm working on a custom pivot lever contraption that I think may make these RS pulls function "correctly".

If, if, if I can do it so it's a bolt on - or a bolt on with minor, ideally reversible mods, I'll let you all know and will maybe make some. Either way, I'll post what I come up with.

Wish me luck! smash.gif

OK here go's. Yes the factory inner door handle to unlatch has a lever or cam action. So the factory added an extra spring to the lever action so not to easy to open. Now using a GT style pull only and not having that lever action I just cut the end off of the secondary spring. In the bottom picture the little spring on the right is the one used for the outer door handle and now is used also for the inner GT pull....Works great, reduces the hard pulling by 2/3rds which seems just right. After the spring end is cut off, the remaining part of the spring is left in acting as a spacer (second picture). That simple answer took me two weeks to figure out, good thing I don't do this for a living. Best, MarkClick to view attachment Click to view attachmentClick to view attachment

That sounds like a good trick ! I will definitely check it and try it on mine !

Thanks!

Well son of a gun...I guess it made the stock pull feel some what substantial. Mine snaps back pretty good. Thanks

Not sure if this makes a difference but I'm talking about this style of pull.

The pictures above are a third lock I had as a spare. Mine in the doors are very clean and well lubed. After cutting the above lock I did the ones in the car. Good news, all function the same way, sweet.

Mine work really well. Had Oscar make the leather straps and they work super easy.. did have to oil them though.

Lubing all the moving pieces on our cars is really key to making them work well and last longer.

Mark - thx for posting, great info here.

On my build, I chickened out of the leather pulls, mainly for the reason you state - the standard unlock action would seem not to match well with the strap "pull" direction. So I stuck with the standard latch mechanism - I may revisit that now you've posted the fix!

BTW - I see you have the Fiat 500 door pull - nice authentic GT touch there.

I bought the app biz versions with the red pull like Tygaboy’s pix. Utterly useless, and never could get them to work. Went to stock door pulls and GT handles. Works so much better and still looks clean.

the biggest thing to get right is the rectangle location in the door for the pull. if it is in the right location then they work really easy. if not they are terrible my 5 year old daughter can open my doors pretty easily.

Thats funny Ben. Mine latch/lock out of the car I could not pull to open unless I put a vise-grip pliers on it, The strap is line up well (GT cards) and would take two strong arms to get it to unlock...if it would. And all three lock/latches are the same way...were the same way. My 12 year old grandson could not pull hard enough to open. I wonder why the differences. Anyway, hope you had a great year. Best,Mark
