I have done several searches, but cannot find the thread on repair/checking potential windshield pillar issues of early cars.
I have a 1970, and it needs a windshield replaced, so I am trying to plan ahead for any other issues.
No sense installing a new windshield and then removing it later to do any reinforcing or repairs.

any help/links appreciated.

My windhsield install is scheduled for Jan 28th. Very curious what you mean as i didnt know there were issues with the pillar

I've had a lot of early cars and never noticed any particular issues with the pillars. Not that it doesn't exist but I've never seen it.

If you are putting the trim back on replace all the little clips while the glass is out.

I read a post that I thought was on 914 World.
Who ever posted had quite a few pictures, showing the brace installed on cars after 1972.

The bracing adds to the rigidity of the A pillars at their base.

The repair/reinforce post must have been in a restoration somewhere other than 914 World.

gms
the early windshield frame has an inner and outer panel while the later cars have a 3rd panel sandwiched in the middle

The post may have been from PMB when they were reinforcing the windshield pillar like the race cars had. It's an extensive support brace made from a few different pieces. If you look for their Sports Purpose Build, you should be able to find it. I'm doing a similar support on mine.

Yeah unless you are doing such reinforcements you should be fine

On the early cars, don’t use the windshield to help you get in and out of the car. It will bend.

Yeah Mark, that's kinda why I'm doing mine! Even thinking about installing handles in the frame...
