Actually, I think that your vision was distorted by the case of pink eye you had then.

I am actually that short. I drive a 914 with the seat slid all the way forward.

Dr. Roger
Hey Clay,

Great looking ride. And now it sounds great too!!

Congrats.

Now you should start planning for '06 in WA..... biggrin.gif

It will be at the MUSR this year. I am currently getting a drink inside, but we have the gas tank paint drying right now.

I am working on installing a speedo cable. I have to temporarily use a standard 914 speedo instead of the electronic 911 speedo. For some reason, it does not work, and I don't have time to troubleshoot it.

Got a whole list of things to do to the car, and only a month to get them done.

But it will be at MUSR.

Oh, and miles, I painted the fire bottle to match the car.

More detailed pictures later this week.

Congrats, Clay! That's awesome.

It is Alive!

Jason and I when over to see the smile on Clay's face. Five years, and two Ford F150s taps later.
It has risen as a Phoenix.
(Mythology. A bird in Egyptian mythology that lived in the desert for 500 years and then consumed itself by fire, later to rise renewed from its ashes.)

This man deserves every bit of pride and pleasure this car will offer. And Betty deserves a great big golden star for the years of patience and love for both Clay and This Great Dream Car that have created.

Sorry if I sound mushy but it is very uplifting to see such super car back on the road and the folks that built it have proven to be two of the 914Clubs finest!

They both have helped and given many of us, by giving of their time and even many parts from the parts stash in the attic.

We all are looking forward to the MUSR in Granbury, Texas

Sweet ride clay. Now it's time to just drive and enjoy it.

I wish....

I still have some work to do before I can drive it. Note the lack of things like rear view mirrors and a GAS TANK!!!

(My wife won't let me drive it without a gas tank).

Plus, it badly needs an alignment and the MFI properly adjusted.

I am looking forward to getting home and putting in the freshly painted gas tank.

MartyYeoman
Congratulations Clay!!
The fire extinguisher speeks to your conservative nature.
I'm glad it wasn't necessary to use it.
ClayPerrine
Actually the fire extinguisher speaks to "been there, done that"

My wife's 914 burnt to the ground one time, and a friend of mine had his airplane burn up in a hangar fire.

I am paranoid about fire....

Thanks for all the good wishes!!

Come to the MUSR and see the car for yourself!!!

Aaah, crap. I plumb fergot about time zones.

ClayPerrine
Ah CRAP...

Yesterday Jason and Greg Fox came over to borrow my welder so Jason could do hell hole repairs. I started my car for them, and after they left I pulled it in the garage. I blipped the throttle a couple of times so I could hear it and then shut it down.

Today I put the gas tank in and then I go to start it. Yep, you guessed it, no start. mad.gif

I start checking around, I have fuel pressure and ignition, and it fires with some carb spray down the stacks.

So I stick my hand on the back of the injection pump and I find this.......

ClayPerrine
For those of you who don't know what that is, it's the injection pump timing belt. This was a used one that came with the motor. Without it, the pump doesn't turn so no fuel gets injected. And it's unique to MFI injection so 99% of you won't ever have to worry about this.

Now I get the joy of finding TDC on #1, and then the Z1 mark. And I am going to paint that sucker on the flywheel while I am there.

Then I get to play with mirrors and such to get the belt timed right.

Just another little thing to add to my list.......

Good news is, the gas tank is in, and the mechanical speedo is installed.
tat2dphreak
ohmy.gif

that sux man!

ThinAir
Well, despite the broken belt, congratulations! It is such an incredible joy & relief when it finally funs for the first time and you know that you didn't screw it up! I hope you get to actually enjoy it real soon! smilie_pokal.gif

5 year project thread???? This project started before this club existed!!!!

There are bits and pieces of the progress scattered all over the place. Some on my website, some here, and some that have not been put on the web yet.

Update. I fixed the broken MFI timing belt. Let me tell you, it's harder to do on a 914 than it is on a 911. At least on the 911 you can actually SEE the friggin timing marks on the crank pulley. headbang.gif If this thing ever breaks a belt on the road somewhere, It's getting towed to a place where it can sit for a few hours to let the heat exchangers cool off before I attempt to replace the belt. And for 15.00 a pop, I suspect that I will change the belt every time I have to pull the motor out of the car.

Ran Tuesday night, need to make a jig to sync the throttle rods.

Tonight I put the mirror and targa top seals on. I will also install the targa pad that I got from Skline.

Alignment and finish out the FI adjustments is slated for Sat. If I get it done in time, I will get it inspected on Sat, if not, there is a place open on Sunday to get it inspected.
