we (a group of 74 1.8 L-Jet owners) did some research into our cars last year using material gleaned from owners here and from recent sales advertisements.
the research pulled up a lot of detail on the first model year of L jet cars that had not been either known before or properly assembled in correct form.

i'd like to do the same if possible for the 1975 model year 1.8 L-Jet cars and add it to the material we have on the 74 cars. this material will be helpful to some of the 914 historians that have been out there working on the history of the cars for years.

Here is a list of the information needed to assist:
1. A good close up photo image of the emissions sticker if still intact on the car.
2. A good close up image of the tune up sticker if still intact on the car.
3. An image of the distributor and description of the vacuum hose hook up.
4. An image of the throttle body and description of the vac hose hook up.

To go with this information - if you know point of sale of the car when new, please include (ie california or USA/49 states). a karmann #/Vin number is useful or if you don't wish to disclose that information, month of manufacture is enough.

The second part of the research is a side project that emerged on its own when we were doing the 74 1.8 research.
This is the painted stencil number on the engine tin.
We uncovered 3 new stencil numbers for 1.8 engines to add to the 2 that Jeff Bowlsby already knew of........and some clear patterns suggestive of their purpose.
We know there were 2 at least for the 1975 1.8s.
918 and 920.
there may be more? possibly at least 2 other numbers on USA market cars.
if the numbers are still visible on your engine it would be useful information to know what they are.
the numbers are either on the left hand side of upper engine tin or right hand side and not easily viewable. one will be behind the aux heater blower hose and the other obscured by the charcoal cannister.

there is a possibility these numbers may be linked to the inclusion of a temp gauge option but its inconclusive at this stage.
if you can easily see whether or not your 1.8 engine had the factory temp gauge include that information. it will be identified by second sump lid on the bottom of the engine.

final note.
some of you may own intact original cars complete with the emissions gear.
normally this hasn't survived on the cars.
the californian models in particular will have an EGR setup.
