All right here we go .... This weekend I had to chance to look(and enjoy a ride as a passenger) at an amazing car. The car started life as an Ivory white 73 2.0.
The owner participated in the P2P rally (Peking to Paris) with a 911 safari. During this harsh trip he started thinking of doing it again but then in a 914. He contacted BMA sport (a Belgian company building rally cars) who had build his 911 before and after a lot of brainstorming the build began. It took them 2 years to complete. The car was completely stripped and scanned by computer to see where the stresspoints are and how to reinforce the car to become a full blown rally car. I went through the pictures of the build and I was blown away... the reinforcements, the roll cage, the suspension makes (from Reiger ! google it) this car so rigid that we took a speedbump at 120 km/h (scared the sh*t out of me).
A few comprises were made as the P2P rally is a serious trip.... the seats are a bit more comfortable, the rear trunk is out of metal (the fibre glass one is used for normal rally) as they had to install a rack to carry a spare tire (P2P regulation). The GT muffler was replaced by a Dansk exhaust as the driver and co-pilot nearly went deaf during test runs. A led strip was added in the trunk (they need to carry their own luggage).
The fuel tank could not be found to they've build it fm scratch. It is now FIA approved !
I never saw a 914/6 GT tribute car upclose and several things caught my eye... the car has two distributors (one in use and one spare) and has double throttle and clutchcables...if one snaps, pop the broken one off and pop one the new one... great idea.
The engine is a 2.7 RSR spec car build by Mittelmotor Germany and the sound and power is amazing.
On the pics you will see the 5 lug fuchs but they during rally special rally rims and tires are used ... the brakes are all ventilated discs and special calipers. When he hit the brakes my neck nearly snapped
The car did testruns in Romania and Portugal and soon will go to Sweden (the owners intends to just drive up the car to Sweden !!!) to participate in a historic car rally. With the Bjorn Waldegard livery I think the crowd will go nuts.
What I like about the car and the owners is that the car is used for what it is build for... this is not a trailer queen but a full blown rally car.
