I order up a leak down tester to get a better idea what was going on with my 2056.
I watch a few videos on HOW to Do a leak down then off I go to give it a try...

I order a OTC leak down tester from amazon for about 75 bucks . They have cheeper ones in the 35 dollar range but I had good luck with OTC In the past when I was an auto tech in 1990's

Its not so scary once you do a few. Really quite EZ

Here is how I did it:

Today I performed a leak down on the 2056. OTC tester @90 psi Cold engine with the following results.
First I pointed the distributor so the rotor was inline with the #1 spark plug lead by tuning the engine over with the plugs out. Looking for TDC on the compressing stroke
Installed the tester on plug 1
Placed in first gear and parking brake on.
Calibrated the tool to 90 PSI
Hooked up the test lead for #1

1) 85 PSI
2) 85 PSI
3) 85 PSI
4) 85 PSI
THE CHART shows 90 psi 5-8 % leak down across the board

you may want to repeat the test warm

leak down is more accurate when the engine is warm and everything has expanded.
although your numbers are consistent and look good
the leaks will go down warm and give you a better baseline for things.

I having issues with the engine running. Seems like a stuck valve and bad bearing noise with popping out the carb on #1. This was run for 30 min . So NEWish
So a cold test will tell me if I have a major failure and point we to where it leaks

But great tip for telling the condition of the used engine

Quick tip: Set the reg for 100 psi and read the leak % directly

Listen at the exhaust and throttle body & oil filler to determine if the leaks are from intake valve, exhaust valve or piston rings. beerchug.gif
