I used to use Google to search the 914world site as it was a lot more likely to find the results I was looking for over the site’s built in search engine, but nothing shows up on Google anymore.
Did the admins block Google from indexing the site?

Nope. HTML code shows it's available for crawling and in fact has a google ownership verification.

However, I, too, have noticed that using a Google search on this forum (site:914world.com) has not been particularly effective.

it used to be just fine. I think this started about two months ago. Strangely the site: search string still works just fine on other web sites when used with Google.
Makes it really tough to find information and of course when my desktop went poof and I migrated to Linux, I lost all my old 914world bookmarks.

I've noticed the same thing - seems like all you get from using "site:914world.com xxxxx" is just a few images. If you click on an image, it will pull the original posting. I've been copying URLs into a text file for reference. Not sure how else to keep track of stuff...

Seeing the same here also. Just searched for 3.5" strut. google returns practically nothing, but duckduckgo, bing, yahoo, etc return a somewhat expected number of matching hits for site:914world.com. Yet another example of why I need to stop using google at all.

Probably related to this:
www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=353342since Gmail is one of the email domains that has us blacklisted.
If anyone has any bright ideas, lets hear them. I literally have contacted all the major providers that have us blacklisted hundreds of times explaining that members have to
manually opt-in to get notifications.

I had to turn OFF email notifications for Forum/Thread subscriptions and they will have to stay OFF for quite some time.
Unfortunately, a bunch of members have flagged our notification emails as SPAM even though they have to OPT-IN to receive those notifications and as a result we have been blacklisted by many of the larger email services, like gmail etc.
This means i will have to spent days/weeks going back an forth with a bunch of blacklist service providers to get this straightened out.
Well isn't that cute. Literally screwed by the members you're trying to serve.
I'm so sorry to hear this.

I tired this link but it still doesn't work as well, or at all, for finding the threads I'm looking for. A simple google search in the past would bring up everything.

Mystery solved, Google changed the way they interpret the different bot sections in the robots.txt file.
I updated our file according to their guidelines and it now validates correctly with their service.
I also requested a re-indexing of the site.
This will take some time to make a noticeable impact on search results though ...

Thanks for bringing that up. It was a good reminder that it has been over a year since I upped my membership. It's now taken care of. Probably the best $25 I've spent this past year.
