Be sure the injector ground wires are connected. Top rear of engine case

And try some starter fluid. That will verify that fuel is your only issue. What's the pressure in the fuel rail?

The trigger points in the distributor can be troublesome. You might pull the distributor, and the trigger points, as well as the check the ignition points. Take some very fine sand paper and drag it through both sides of the points to clean them up. Spray a little electrical cleaner to remove any debris. Relube the contact points with contact lube.
Then hook up a battery and a light to validate that they conduct electricity well. It may be that they need to be replaced. Set ground to middle connection, hot to left and right which test either side points. Light should trip on and off with each push of the points disconnecting and reconnecting. Same thing for the ignition points. Can also re-install the points, turn the shaft and see if the light turns on and off with rotation.

Starter fluid first.

You say you have spark to the plugs, but then you later say not one new plug has fired? I'm confused what you mean.

Have you tested the spark? Use an extra plug attached to a plug wire taped with the outer end or the threads touching a good ground. You should be able to see the spark when the starter cranks.

Do you know you are getting fuel? If the tailpipe smells like gasoline after you crank the starter for a while, you are getting fuel. You can (and should!) verify by removing the injectors from one side (just one M6 nut/10mm socket holds each one down!) and sticking the business end of each in a jar. Crank the starter, look for fuel in the jar.

Verify if you are getting both of those or not.

Well, low and behold. A white wire was off the coil. I think that was part of the ecu? After attaching that. Started up just fine...... was the only thing I never thought of....thanks for the suggestions..

A 73 D-Jet has no white wire on the coil. An L-jet does though.

Post a photo of your overall engine and ECU please.
