Good morning, trying to identify this cover. Mine is missing.
To access fuel lines under the gas tank from under the car. Haynes calls it a "gravel cover"......need to find one, once I know what to call it.

(Picture is from the car that just came up on BAT)

"Protective plate" per the PET. Not too much protection here, it's 20 gauge steel

Not meant to be a skid plate.

Simply designed to keep bottom of floor pan flat minimizing airflow disruption and to keep road debris off the steering rack and prevents debris from entering the area below the fuel tank through the large access hole. That is the "protective" element about it.

Thank you, yes the plate is missing too. But, I'm looking for the round cover/plug. Looking at the first pic. Behind the round cover, are the fuel lines connected to the fuel tank.

(Looking at the pdf file now, tough time locating it. Quite extensive)

There is no cover for that opening. You need the protective cover (gravel shield)

works as a skid plate when necessary...
this happened on ours (aluminum) when another driver pushed me off the track on a corner that had a very large drop off.

I've never seen a "plug" on that hole
in the picture you can see the welting that the factory used.

yes those are the gas lines... protected from the sharp edge of the hole by welting

you need the "skid plate" or "dust shield" or what ever you want to call it.

rack and pinion cover, we have new and used on the shelf, 914 341 161 00

More pics might help. I am missing 914 341 161 00. But, in this instance I'm talking about the round hole.....(fuel tank has been removed for cleaning on my car).

its called welting.

its purpose is to cover the sharp edges of the hole.
any wire that runs through a large hole, should always be protected
think of it as a large grommet


you cut it to length... can buy in bulk easily on line.
I don't know if the factory part (welting) is sold...
but any generic welting will serve the same purpose (sharp edge safety)
and will not show when installed.

yep, no cover or plug for that 4 inch diameter hole.

Yup, what everyone else said. There is no cover for that hole. In the picture you posted that you pulled from the internet, those 'pieces' you see inside the hole are not 'pieces' of a cover, they arer the two fuel lines.

Thanks everyone for the clarification! I "see" it now. The fuel lines as Rob-O pointed out. I will install the rack and pinion cover.

Hand hole cover, or better known as 4" round switch plate cover at home depot

There was another thread about this very hole. Not a solid cover but a ventilation mesh that fit perfectly, maybe from Home Depot too. It would keep the mice out and allow air to get in and out. The axle protective cover will still let mice get in there.

No matter what keywords I try I can't locate that thread with search... Anyone remember it?
