Hello, I have a faint buzzing sound when the ignition is on. It does not come on when auxiliary power is on. It is not the buzzer for leaving the key in the ignition when you open the door. It is much quieter than that. Seems like it is coming from center/under the dash but I am not positive, it is hard to tell.

Any help finding the sound is appreciated.

Regards,
Terry

You're sure it's not your fuel pump? That's a necessary buzz smile.gif

That’s a good question. It is not as loud as when you turn the key to cycle the fuel pump, but it is a similar sound. I replaced the fuel pump a couple thousand miles ago. I will get under the car and listen for that. That might be why I’m having trouble finding it. I don’t think it was always this loud. Could there be a resin that it would get louder?

did you get wax cleaned out of your ears? smile.gif
hearing deterioration is always a serious consideration when i consider myself!

if it is the fuel pump - maybe its mounting bolts have worked loose. and its vibrating.

or - its deteriorating. assuming you have the fuel pump in front location.

check the filter. perhaps its dirty and fuel pump is fighting it.

I learned a good way to identify noises is a 3 foot piece of old garden hose.
Start car, put one end of hose on fuel pump, listen in other end.
If not, then you start moving around to areas, listen to alternator, etc etc

I am slightly older than the car. Hearing is an increasing issue!!!!

Fuel pump is moved up front. I’ll check bolts and filter.

Good idea.

Dumb question, would an alternator buzz?

Anything that moves can change tone, buzz, whir etc

You said it changes tone when a different electrical load happen.
I go for alternator, regulator etc etc
Fuel pump first.

Did your car come from California?

It could be the flasher relay and a slight electrical leak via the ebrake switch or the master brake cylinder switch.

Two ways to check this: one is to remove the relay and see if the buzzing stops. The other is to remove the ebrake switch wire and the MC warning switch wires and see if the buzzing goes away.

Thank you, These are great tips. I did replace the ebrake switch last summer. Maybe it is from that.
