According to Pelican Parts

"a 640xxxx serial with a 101.3R case half should be a 1970 2.0 914/6 engine case."

Seller was all over the place when I asked him questions about the motor, first saying it was a 2.0 than it was a 3.0.

If you spoke with Dodi that sounds about right. Clarified now as from a 1980 SC, if it's not stuck the price isn't ridiculous for a decent case.

Thanks for the link, it was kinda fun to go through his current inventory. Never missed a chance to stop by there whenever we went to the Historics... a guilty pleasure. Like a two-beer lunch at a greasy spoon.

Given the placement of the serial number, this appears to be a 914/6 engine. Cast iron cylinders and the 1969 date stamp on the heads are clues. Later 3.0 engines were also given a "640" prefix so this may be confusing things, but this is clearly an earlier engine, based on what's observable from the outside.

Anyone looking for #6404466 ?

Clearly a 6 bolt crank as well. The seller not very Porsche informed?

This engine would have come out of a 914/6 with a VIN between 914.043.0700 and 914.043.0800 (most likely)

Definitely a 914/6 engine , easy to tell from the location of the serial number. No doubt.
