Hi,
I have a problem with my cylinder head temperature sensor.
When my engine heats up after a while the sensor is out of order.

914 2l 1973

do you have any idea what the problem is?

How are you determining this? Have you tested it off the car?

Yes, I determined that outside of the car
what is the right sensor reference for my engine? GA001919

You may need more than the CHT. There ins an additional resistor I believe that you have on that set up.

Bosch part number 0 280 130 017 is correct for a 1973 2.0L if it has original '73 correct injection with the ballast resistor between the fuel injection harness and the sensor lead.

That is an early 73' 2.0L engine.

Temp sensor p/n needed is 022 906 041 A (Bosch p/n 0 280 130 017) and should be run with the 270 ohm ballast resistor in series with the temp sensor. Note these sensors have been hard to come by and they do have a different resistance curve vs. other sensor p/n's

Thanks , where find this sensor ?

As I understand the resistor was eliminated in ‘74, so what is different about the ‘74 setup that gets rid of it? Or, do I have that incorrect?

Thanks

The 73 2.0L FI uses a one year only MPS (037) and ballast resistor and an ECU that was also used for the 1.7L.

The 74 redesigned all that, uses an upgraded ECU, an 043 MPS (used for all 2.0L from 74-76) and eliminated the ballast resistor.

The TS2 also changed over those years.

Hello, I can't find the parts. do you have an idea ? dry.gif

Two options

1) Post a Wanted to Buy ad on the Classified Forum and see if someone has the proper part and is willing to sell it. Will likely result in a used but functional part. You might get lucky and find someone that has a NOS part (not likely but you never know)

2) Use a new part that is commercially available p/n 311 906 041 A

Option #2 will end up being based on 0 280 130 012 sensor curve. This is not ideal and will result in the engine running richer, and richer longer at start up until the engine comes up to operating temperature (250 F +) after it's at operating temp, the differences in the parts are minor.
