Is it a thing to use period correct 911 mirrors on 914s?

Are these larger than the 914 mirrors?

Does anybody know if they fit the same bolt hole pattern?

I've seen those done on a 914/6, they don't match the factory mirror holes and have to go down the door skin a little more than the factory mirrors. I personally didn't like it, not my cup of tea, I think the factory mirrors look much better and now with them being so readily available you can do L/R no problem.

I also tried 911 flag mirrors and 911 aero mirrors. They both look like dumbo from certain angles. The flag mirrors are also super hard to get the right angle so they lay flat. To go back to stock mirrors it was easier to replace the doors than to try and repair the damage from mounting 911 mirrors.

George that looks like an early 70s mirror...the 911 mirrors just don't fit well on the 914....the stock ones are really the best fit especially for a street car....the only ones that work fairly well other that the stock 914 ones are Durants, Talbots, and Vitaloni....some of these were used on the 356 and early 911s.

One has been on my car every since the late 70s. I like the look and function

These 911 mirrors have mounting screws that mount from below and thread into the mirror. This would mean pulling off the interior door panel and trim for access.

The 914 mirror screws in from the outside into nuts that are welded to the door, no need to pull the panels. The welded on nuts exist even on the right side, although the pilot holes are not normally pre-drilled through the door skin. I think RH mirrors were a dealer option.

Even if the bolt pattern of both mirrors matched, you would need to remove the welded nuts or drill them out for clearance holes. Putting the 911 mirrors on would not be a five minute swap job.

The inability to reuse the existing welded nuts is the clincher. Now I just need to source one driver quality exterior 914 mirror.

Early of late style?

Turns out that I have one early mirror. I'm not sure if I should try to match that or get two new reproductions.

I think I have an extra Late mirror, if I do I would trade your for your Early mirror.

The 75 1.8 that I sold last year had 1970 or so 911 mirrors on it and I really liked them. I even thought of getting a set for my 1970 914-6

911 mirrors are to large they look like elephant eyers.

That car looks so wrong to me. That front wheel arch, less so the rear arch but a little. High wipers, reflection of a giant stroller? The mirror though, I feel like it sits too close to the edge of the door, the trapped negative space (my art school background there) is a bit awkward.

f piech was thinking if it looked right on a 911 it looked right on a 914?
i don't mind what he did with the front guards (fenders) either!
and i do like what he did with the engine.
i suppose he figured with 350 hp you don't need a rear view mirror?

when i was out at the workshop today i noticed exactly the same mirror was used for alfa romeo 105s - except they had an alfa badge cast into the back of them. otherwise almost identical. some european manufacturer in the 1960s?
