Hello, new to the forum, I purchased a 1973 2.0 about a year ago. I took the car today for a valve adjustment and the mechanic found a broken valve adjustment screw. The broken end is not in the valve cover and the mechanic believes it could have worked its way through the pushrod tube into the engine case. Does this sound plausible? Would the car run if the end of the adjuster screw was broken off?
If the end of the adjuster cannot be located through draining the oil and looking into the engine through the sump screen the mechanic is suggesting tearing the engine apart to find the adjuster/ assess the damage? Does tis seem reasonable? What are the chances that the adjuster could have made is way into the engine?
Thank you for your help

Stock adjusters are solid threaded hardened pieces of metal. How was it broken? Were they 911 swivel foot adjusters ? OE? Pictures?
brant
Pictures please

People here will be more likely familiar with the broken piece than a lot of mechanics Unless they are air cooled specialists
