Yikes, scari (scary) is right. I have no idea where they get off calling the 914 ugly and them coming up with that blink.gif

it is the bastard child of a menage a trois between a 1986 240Z a frog and a 914.

OK, I agree that it's not that well executed, but does anyone think that any of the mods are any more effective for high speed air management than the regular dams and spoilers that we are already using?

Just because I din't like someone's work, doesn't mean that the concepts are flawed (even though they might be in this case).

Here you go Dan,

The form development is not complete and see no data to support the claims but I always appreciate the effort to try something different...

I think it's a typo Sean. Should have been bifornicated, meaning it's twice as f*cked up looking as the 914.1 version. lol2.gif

The rear looks like a Saab Sonnett. I always like the Sonnett but this is just too contrived. You all know I'm no purist, but I wonder, didn't this guy have a sheet of paper and pencil. He could have saved himself a lot of work if he'd sketched it out first and saw what it was going to look like.

A sonnet was a peice of fine art compared to that.

Boy, some pretty harsh comments here. I kinda like the concept. For myself, I prefer a stock (ish) body, but the notion of lightening the car and improving the aerodynamics is credible, even if you don't like the look.

Randy,

How are you involved in this car's development? I found another thread about it and a couple of guys liked it. I like the effort but would have addressed a few areas. The targa band is difficult to hide or modify as it is one of the most identifiable features for the 914. The rear shade feature is very 70's. The cam tail is pretty abrupt but I like the visibility of the tranny and exhaust, a feature I will incorporate in my car. It appears they tried to instill classic English features with the rivets and green colour. I've seen MGA's with nice aluminum spoilers and skirting. The text really needs some data unless it is merely advertising hype. What is the intention of the builder? There isn't much of an story to the car...
SLITS
Almost a Bradly GT.

I knew someone would ask this sooner or later unsure.gif Mike (the car's creator) is an old friend with whom I share shop space. While we don't always see eye to eye on the aesthetic direction of his automotive projects, we share a common obsession with, and a great respect for the 914. He is an accomplished and successful artist whose art evokes controversial opinions, as true art should. Check out the rest of his web pages and you'll see what I mean. The first car (the green one) began as an attempt to make something interesting and improved from a car that otherwise would have been sawzall fodder. It is really nothing more than a platform for experimentation....exploring concepts that might be applied to later, more refined versions. He has 3 or 4 more 914's in various states of restoration and modification....I think that future renditions will be verrry interesting. I've driven the green car and can vouch for it's functional improvements......it sticks like glue at high speeds, and with it's lighter weight, accelerates way better than a stock bodied 1.8. Wish I could get him to do a six.
Steve
I know there's been a lot of threads on Boxster versus the 914 but doesn't the boxster already have these kind of modifications on it?
I love my home made 3.2 914-6 but I have to wonder whether it would of made more sense to start with a first year boxster and do an engine transplant from a 996?
It would of cost a lot less and I would of got more bang for the buck.
I probably have 20-25k in my car and I still need a 916 trans, steel flairs and a paint job.
Let alone my car does not have AC or electric anything.
It also has some rust areas that will need to be dealt with someday.

I guess if your happy with a weekend stock 4 banger or don't need AC the 914 makes sense.

Steve, You brought up some good points. I am at the point where I'm ready to paint my car, it's blocked and ready to go, after its been completely gutted, suspension, engine, etc.. Now I'm thinking very seriously about steel Gt flairs, it's not too late for them, but I thought I was all done cutting and welding. I'm lurking on some of the different web sites including this one, looking at 6's for sale too. This can be never ending. Sometimes I wonder what I'm getting myself into. I realize that I will never see the money that I put into this, fortunatly, I can do most the work myself. huh.gif

The 914 has always been a platform for different designs and ideas, the pure executions of design and theories does not always produces a public agreement in finished form.
As they say Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I have had 914's since 1977 , Love em , no creature comforts.
The boxster thing well , youre right a new modern mid engine car is better period.
That being said I choose not to buy a new Boxster and bought the car I have always wanted a 914-6GT. I expet Boxsters will be around for a while, no reason to rush out and get one yet. hell I kinda like the Cayman.

Randy , there seems to be alot of auto artist down that way, The guys that build those semi truck based art rods are in Grants Pass , whats those T shirts , No Fear, Dare to be different

i'm not surprised ...

first, your artist friend starts out with:

"It is also recognized that among autos on the road the Porsche 914 is one butt ugly auto."

and then proceeds to present us with his idea of "dressing up the bride":

I agree
I also like the looks and functionality of the Cayman.
I have a 993 cabriolet and the cost of the top and mechanicals are pretty nasty and kludgy.
I will probably wait until the Caymen is 5 years old and pick up one of those.
By that time my 993 will be paid off and the 914 will be semi done.
At least it will have steel flairs and a new paint job.

first, your artist friend starts out with:

Yes, I agree that his assertions about the 914's (stock) looks are not going to be well received among a group of 914 enthusiasts. Some of us like stock bodies, some don't...some like the Chalons and square flares, some don't. My point is that value judgements over aesthetics will always reach a dead end....beauty IS in the eye of the beholder. I admit that I always thought the 914 was kind of homely....then I bought one and became infatuated with it's many qualities....now I think the stock body looks rather nice. It's kind of like having a homely girlfriend who is smart, has a great personality, is a wonderful companion, rich, cooks good, and is killer in bed. She will start looking quite beautiful pretty soon, right? wub.gif
Steve
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder!!
or behoser as I always say!!
I agree a 914 is beautiful because of its simplicity, functionality and fun factor.
thomasotten
Beauty is NOT in the eye of the beholder. Beauty is like truth, you either appreciate (recognize) it or you don't. Having gotten that out of the way, have a look at this "beauty" for sale right now on Ebay (with no bids)...

Like the "artist" who made the green car, something must have driven the Artist formerly known as George Hussey to make this car. It doesn't make sense, because when you talk to George, he is more of a 914 purist.
