I have swapped in a GM 3.1lt. V-6 into my car,need to use a cable shifter.

No cable experience…but nice to welcome another Hoosier!
Indeed, welcome back to the fun. I took a break from '95 when I sold my '7- 914-6 to 2010 when I bought my '71 914-6. Life happens and cars can not always be the priority. 
I have no clue re your question but welcome (back), looking forward to seeing/hearing more re your car! 
Shifter options depend on which trans you're running. Give us that info and we'll offer some opinions.
I've got a "73" side shifter installed.
