Waited over a year for my restoration painter to take my car. He gave me a slot in October a year ago and was faithful to that, so I took the car to him then.
The Scarlet Red paint job before I got the car was an excellent/first-class one and he said it was so good he would not have to take down to bare metal. It's an LA car and I think was repainted in So Cal.
Paint was severely oxidized on lids, beyond recovery, and both lids also had hail damage - strangely no hail damage anywhere else. Rust was minimal, only tiny areas on top along trim and holes for sail trim. Scotty Burnett looked car over and said it was about the most rust-free 914 he'd ever seen.
I'm electing to not put vinyl on the sails. I can always add it later if I want. I like the clean look of a painted sail area. RickB45, a passionate 914 owner & good friend recommended it.
I do not like red, but the darker Malaga Red I do like. I love that it is rare as well and I think the car will really pop with it - AND it will be back to its original color. Yooo-hoo! ALL "MORE BETTER"!
Here are progress photos:
Can't wait. Hoping I can finish engine top-end rebuild before he finishes! I think end of January is his target.....
