Full Version: Chevy Distributor Wire / points Question

I have a 69 Chevy corvette that has a petroinix in place of points.
I no longer get spark and believe the Petronix has failed.
I want to go back to the points but I am not sure of the wiring.

The Petronix has a red and black wire going to plus and negative on the coil.
I believe the points only require one wire going to (-) on the coil.

Its been a while can someone confirm this ?

You are right.Your power source goes to the + side on the coil and the wire that comes out of the distr. from the points goes to the - side.Doesn't sound like you have forgotten anything! smile.gif It's too bad about your Pertronix going bad,I really like those much better than points.

Once we get the car running I will order a new petronix.....

Did the points distributor have a resistor in front of it that never got bypassed when the Pertronix was installed???

Do you have room in there for a chebby HEI dizzy?
Reliable, cheap, and work really well even at high rpm if you get the aftermarket coil pack and stuff.

Yea,

Just because there's no spark doesn't mean it's the spark trigger.

IMHO id first check...
Is the Petronix grounding out to something? Like inside the distributor?
Are you using the same old coil?
Is there a ballast resistor inline with the red wire going to the coil so you don't cook you coil... =-)
You might ask, "Gee Roger, do I check that?"
I would reply, "Test the voltage at the coil wire (red). You should read 6V to 8V." Saves coil. No resistor=cooked coil.

Who know... =-)
