How difficult is it to replace this? I have the same issue, the shaft moves and it is awful when driving and hitting bumps. Any direction from experts here on how to replace?
Replace the bearings / bushing in the steering column.
Not a terrible job but it will be a lot easier if you just remove the steering column from the vehicle.
The bearing that Mikey914 showed, supports the steering shaft that comes directly out of the steering rack. It is located in the Frunk under the gas tank. That bearing being bad will not cause you to feel vertical or horizontal slop in the steering wheel as you go over bumps.
See Haynes manual or factory manual on info how to remove the steering column. It’s a couple hour job. The exact parts you’ll need will be dependent on whether your steering column is early or late style.
