Full Version: Using Tangerine racing 914/6 shift kit for a Type4 with headers

Yeah, like, I got kind of stupid ambitious with the number of projects that I took on so trying to rationalize things a bit here.

I have a 74 which is going to have that big type four engine go into it with headers and I think that should allow me to use the Tangerine Racing 914/6 shift linkage because the headers from Sierra Madre should let that straight linkage move freely, but I haven’t marked everything up yet.

Anyone done that? Dope slaps to be administered?

Thanks!

Not sure if I am right, but ask Chris.
I think the long straight one is for a tail shifter and the bent one is for a side shifter.

You are probably right, it’s been a year since i ordered this all. Oof.

I’ll ring Chris so he can administer the dope slaps as necessary.

Hope you are doing well and thanks for the response.

The straight rod will not work with the 4cyl cross bar

Not only the engine bar, but the engine sump is in the way too.

Good point.

Does anyone have any data yet showing that these "headers" from bursch actually do anything other than eliminate your heat? They just look like heat exchangers without the heat exchanger and an added crossover. AFAIK they are unproven at this point. If you are interested in loosing heat there are multiple other proven header designs.

I was thinking the same thing, a dyno session would be the only way to tell.

Thank you for all the discussion gentlemen, really appreciate it.

I would actually be keen to figure out how all these headers work, I have a beautiful full set from Marty but they’re going to require modifying an existing muffler, and it was actually cheaper to just throw these ones on to get the car up and running.

You guys are great, thanks!
