If anyone has a link or details on this event, please post it for us.

Luftgekuhlt 9 event venue details to be revealed in the coming weeks.

In true Luft form, event venue details will be revealed in the coming weeks, but for those eager to make arrangements you can fly into OAK or SFO.
Each airport is within a 50-mile drive of our host venue this year. We will release hotel recommendations as well as a full lineup of Luft-supported events in the next few weeks.

My money is on the North Bay near the Sears Point Racetrack (Sonoma Raceway), which is about 50 miles north from each of the two airports.

It was awesome last year in So Cal. They had cars from the Porsche Museum including a 916. MSDS brought the Lemans Sunoco winning car.
The previous Universal Backlot was better though.

FYI, ticket sales are up

Not sure I will attend or try to enter this time, but I bought tickets just in case...
Cairo94507
Bought 2 tickets; should be a fun day. beerchug.gif

So they are telling you that you must purchase admission tickets prior to having your car registered and we don't know where in the SF Bay Area the venue will be? Am I missing something?

@Steve

Can you maybe start a thread with some pics of the blue car???
The blog car looks silver, yet the blue avatar looks really well done.

James - no, I think you have it right. In the past they have taken the approach of separating people attendance and car selection; for Luft 6, if your car was accepted, there would be attendance tickets allocated to the driver/owner, even though the attendance tickets had "sold out". I am guessing they are taking that one step further (and controlling attendance more tightly), by asking you to secure attendance in advance of any car selection.

They are secretive about venue as in the past, while the choices are interesting and unusual (Universal Studios backlot for instance!), they can be sensitive to traffic access and overcrowding at the event. I guess theres a "big reveal" element as well which adds to the intrigue and brand.

Agree with @SirAndy . Hotel recommendation in Vallejo also means it's happening close enough to Petaluma that I'm hosting a BBQ at the Red Barn on Sat, 4/29. Let me know if you plan to attend so I can be ready.

FYI, for those who are traveling and staying over night...I see they are recommending hotels in the Vallejo area so please be aware that Vallejo has some rough parts and plenty of criminal activity in the area.

Just want to ensure that the people attending and their cars will be safe. My recommendation would be to stay closer to Napa.

My guess is that they use parts of Mare Island in Vallejo for Luft 9. I don't think they would use Sonoma Raceway as they are holding an SVRA race that same weekend.

Just my $.02 since I live pretty close to this area.
Cairo94507
@Dominic - I agree with the caution re Vallejo.

Thanks Mike!

My wife and I should be attending at least one of the days as we are less than 30 minutes away (she wants to drive her 914). That said, if anyone needs any tools, hardware or help while they are in the area please let me know. smash.gif

Cheers,
Dominic

EDIT: Just bought general admission tickets for Saturday $60 each...ouch! confused24.gif

I will be there on Saturday...see you there!

There is a fellow with a big private car collection stored at Mare Island. He made his money operating funeral homes, and probably has one of the world's largest collections of funeral cars and hearses. He also has other cars as well. Sorry, I can't remember his name right now.

i agree with the caution about booking a motel in Vallejo; it has a significant crime & drug problem. Might be safer to book a place in Fairfield or Suisun.
Krieger
Novato is a very good alternative to Vallejo and Fairfield.

What are typically asked for when one submits their car to this event?

I've entered and been accepted twice, with 2 different cars. Looking back at my submittals I see:

Basic info on your car, options, limited edition, etc.

Pictures

Your story about maybe how you got the car, or how long you've owned it, or why this car, or what attracts people to your particular car, or high level what has been done to it to set it apart from others, or maybe you restored it yourself or built the engine; or built with dad or kid, etc.

Good luck!

Regarding crime areas. I'm in a group that booked an AirBnB on the other side of the Napa River from Vallejo. Any concerns there?
r_towle
Let’s book an event in a sketchy area, not tell anyone the details….

Someone needs a little help in event planning???

Send me the address of the place...the only area that's across the river from Vallejo is Mare Island.
JamesJ
I made a couple of attempts to register for this event with two different browsers.
Has anyone else had difficulty registering?
Cairo94507
No, I registered last week with no issues. Hope they sort the problem quickly. beerchug.gif

Check out the Luft 8 thread for pictures of the blue 916. To me it looked too nice. Factory 916 color?

My two boys and I have tickets for the 8:00 entry Saturday and Sunday. I entered the 914 although haven’t heard anything other than receipt for payment of the car entry.
Cairo94507
OK, I was notified my car was accepted. The process has been a bit confusing for me. I guess I wait for an email telling me when my car is due there, etc. But, YAY! I am looking forward to this; should be a lot of fun. Hope to see some fellow 914World members there too. Having it reasonably close to home, (100 miles) is nice too. beerchug.gif

Very cool!! Enjoy the weekend!!

I received the email saying my 914 was excepted and agreement with Cairo as to confusion but I’m in. I’m going to try the Leitz ski rack with a old Jose Cuervo tequila, longboard for Saturday!
Cairo94507
OK, I think I got this sorted. Not an inexpensive show; the costs are $110 X2 for 2 people (my brother and I) and $95 for my car to get in to be shown. $315 total unless I really screwed up. But.... we each get a hat!!!!! slap.gif
echocanyons
Congrats! Michael and Wes.
My car will be in good company, it was also accepted.
Good to see some nice 914 representation

Cairo94507
@DRPHIL914 Thanks so much. I totally understand about flying cross country for a show. My wife would have me committed (5150). beerchug.gif

In a "Well, there goes the neighborhood." moment, Luft has accepted my LS car. This was one of the pics I submitted, just for context. Yes, they know it's LS-powered.
Cairo94507
@tygaboy - Excellent, Congratulations. Your car is a fine example of these cars being pushed to be all they can be in the hands of a talented owner. It seems there may be several of us there- hopefully we can all park next to each other and have a great time.
Graydingo
I'll be there with my 75 911 as the 914 is still a project. Come say hi!

wes
@tygaboy open the rear trunk lid and you’ll surely receive attention along with a few WOWS.

Lucky9146
Yes Mark, still available

PM me and let's get it done
Lucky9146
Ticket to Mark.

See Ya'all there that are going!
flat4guy
See you there but no 914 for us - still finishing it up for this summer and Werks.
campbellcj
Well I'm not going to make it this time - both Porsches are broken and have a lot going on otherwise... Have fun and be safe all!
