Full Version: Rear Brake Rotors for My 914-6 GT Project?

I am in the process of a 914-6 GT conversion on my 1973 914. The build thread can be found here:

My 5-lug conversion plan for the rear includes custom EMPI free-floating axles, '69-'71 108 mm 911 CV's, differential output flanges, stub axles and hubs. I am also planning on using the 914-4 rear calipers from the '73. These are currently at PMB for restoration.

My question is regarding the correct rear rotor to work with this combination. From reading up on the subject it seems like I have two options to make this work:

1. 914-6/early 911 non ventilated rear rotors. I understand that this will require cutting the rotor diameter by 3mm and some extra care in mounting the wheel as the as the screws to stabilize the rotor to the drive flange don’t line up.

2. Custom 914-4 rear rotors drilled to match the 5 lug 911 rear hub

Is this correct or is there a better option to allow me to use my '73 914-4 rear calipers with my 911 rear hubs?

I left the 914-4 calipers on my first conversion car. 911T solid rotors from flaps. My local mechanic turned down the diameter by 3mm. Charged me $20. Fit perfectly.

I used early 70’s 911 hubs so the screws lined up perfectly with the T rotors.

Thanks...That is my plan. I confirmed this during a conversation with PMB this morning.

BTW...Our cars will be sharing a trailer on the road back from the mid-west in the next couple of days.

I used the ‘73 rear calipers with a V kit to add vented rotors which also needed to be cut by 3mm.
