What is going through the large hose fittings?
Air to bypass the throttle blade is what I'd expect.

yep.

go here for the hose layouts.
page 3 - bottom of page.

yours might be a bit different @technicalninja .
you have a 75.
might have got one of these older style decels since its an earlier 75.
or it might have the later decel which is like a big flat pancake thing.

now i have a question for you @914Build in return to assist with L jet research. biggrin.gif

have you still got an emission sticker in engine bay. white label with red writing.
on lhs of engine bay above fuse/relay box.
can you take a picture and post.

is there still a tune up sticker on the engine tin. upper surface of tin, left hand side of engine. if so take a picture and post.

is there still a white painted stencil number visible on engine tin.
will be either on left hand side or right hand side up towards the cooling fan casting.
hidden by heater blower hose if the hose is still there.
whats the number. take a pic if you can.

Thank you for your reply’s

thanks @914Build

good to have some more data on the EC-B engine.
its originally a car sold in the 49 states.
the tune sticker matches the emission sticker so probably still original engine!

the painted stencil number will be on side of tin where arrow points,
or on same place on rhs - thats if its still there!
if it is what is the number. 604 maybe? 605?

thanks for taking the time.

that diagram is suspect.
it shows the retard line on the distributor hooked up to where a vac advance port is on the throttle body (sometimes, depending on whether 74 or 75 or calif or 49 states) so it can confuse. the vac retard line from distributor always on all of them goes to the vac retard port on the t/b which faces forward on t/b and is down low. never that one on the back of the t/b which as i say is sometimes there and sometimes not.

there were two different set ups for both 74 and 75 L jets depending on whether california or 49 states.

we did a bit of work on the 74 L jets that sorted those and the vac lines.

we should do one for the 75s that gets them up to date.
haven't had time, but have worked them out.

a 75 L Jet 49 states is basically the same as a 74 californian.
the correct vac diagram for that 74 cal is in originality section of website.
page 3 of thread on the mystery of the L jets.

also the hose hook up for the charcoal can is wrong for engine bay cans.
been back and forths on that for years.
i settled it with recent research.
they changed the can hook ups when they went to engine bay cans.
its all there in the factory literature including date of change.
again its been corrected and proper data is in that topic in originality on page 3.
including the factory literature tracking the change.

been a lot of guessing in the years between 1970s and now leading to bum info.

someone invent a virus program to eat that bum diagram up and purge it from the internet.

Geezer914
All you need is the vent line from the oil filler neck to the boot, vacuum line to distributor and fuel pressure regulator, and the auxillary air valve hose to the intake boot. The rest is unnecessary baggage to satisfy The emission police back in the day. Trash! Vent the tank to the bottom of the car by the steering rack.

I do believe it was 604
While I was in the Middle East, working for the US government, my iPhone did a iOS update, and I lost all of the pictures I had of this car dismantle..
So I’m a little confused as to where all of my vacuum lines go, I did want to say thank you for that diagram I will use it as well as test my other Bosch guys that I have here in the North Haven Connecticut area.

A HUGE thank you for sending this….
I am just trying to do all of the brand new vacuum lines and make sure it’s done, right.
And I think I have the D jet Tronic system

ah you are so hard core geezer.

love it. beerchug.gif

the only truly bad one is the one that all of them have.
that retard line from the vac can.
thats designed to make your car run hot at idle in a traffic jam.
its a real bit of crude nastiness in a way.
they just didn't have the sophisticated ECUs and stuff we have now.
which are not that sophisticated when they decide to suffer a mental breakdown. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

the advance line from dizzy to t/b is a good one. not evil.
but only the 74 49 states had it.

yeah - well be careful, because its a bum diagram.

-----------

this is the diagram for you.
you have a 74 1.8 EC-B (49 states). right down to the 604 number (thanks for that info beerchug.gif )
you won't go wrong or have to guess with this.
scroll down towards bottom of page. all the diagrams for all the 74 1.8s are there.

http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?sho...57407&st=40

edit.
and no you don't have a D Jetronic.
you have an L jetronic. i can see all the components.
1.8s were all L jet unless someone built a frankenstein.
you don't have a stitched together corpse i can see that from the photos.
Van B
agree.gif Bad diagram. Looks more like a 75… your 74 won’t work with that distributor setup.
