I've used it on bare steel. Seems to work pretty well as long as it doesn't get wet. If it water gets trapped against the surface, the steel rusts.

wow...
my tranny case has the freckles on it...from when i doused the whole thing with simple green to clean it.
so this stuff is applied like WD-40 but won't leave the surface sticky....?

Leaves no film on the surface???
