One way to welcome in a newbie put warning labels on all their for sale ads

I'm a newbie...

I'm also a helpful member that did NOT place a for sale add as my very first post.

There is MASSIVE fraud actively occurring in forums every day.

I've had an offer from a scammer just yesterday on a part that there is no-way in the world they have. I just reported them to management.

You may get very limited response to your add because it's the ONLY thing we've seen from you.

No "Hi I'm Bill from XXX and here's a picture of my car" type stuff.

I've bought 3K worth of stuff from Mark. I drove out and met him in San Angelo where I purchase a core 2.0l engine from him.

Mark is a cornerstone in this forum, and we buy and sell stuff with him without fear.

All car forums that you just place adds in will treat you exactly the same. Most require multiple posts before you can place adds. This one does not.

Your wheels look truly nice, absolutely "top shelf", but scammers find the very best pictures they can and just steal them along with the people's money they scam.

Scammers are the norm for how you have presented yourself.

The normal scam starts as a PM or a post into someone's WTB add.

Your wheels showed up this way...

Right now, you look 90% scammer, 10% real.

Get into the forum as an active member and you will be treated as such.

I had a thought after I posted the previous response...

I'd want a "proof of life" picture of those wheels before I went any further with you.

Take a picture of your gorgeous wheels, on grass, with common everyday items in the picture. I'd want both wheels, one up and one down, with kitchen utensils, your cell phone, your pet cat/dog, or your car in background. A picture of yourself might be helpful as well.

Something different than what you have already posted multiple times...

A scammer will not have this ability and your wheels will sell much quicker if you can pull this off.

List the name of the wheel restorer as well. Folks on here will post responses that say "I had my wheels done there and I recommend that company".

I have already found my wheels but if I hadn't your wheels would be at the top of my want list. They look truly "Mint".

I'm not trying to diss your add, I'm trying to help others determine if you're a scammer or real.

If you're real those wheels will sell quickly IMO.

I did the same a few months ago. Suggested the new seller post a few current shots to prove ownership. Seller got defensive. Several others chimed in with suggestions. Seller said they were good suggestions. Seller never did any of them. Seller disappeared. Scammer, might never know for sure. We are very protective around here, it is a tight community. But very open and honest.

If your first post was in the garage and started with hey I'm new, I have a 914, I want a 914, I like 914s, you would be openly welcomed. Establish a rapport, work at it a bit, you will be rewarded.

How will this one go?

This ad was cross posted on Pelican by the same account. That account has been active since 2019 and has 419 posts. Not claiming ad is real or not, just adding facts.

Sellers need to be aware that posts only to the 914world classifieds forum do not increase the sellers post count. To gain credibility sellers should participate in the garage or other forums here, which increases post count, and so that they become known.

Facts are great!

nditz1 has a wheel add up as well, 16X7s, a pair, nice looking but strangely glossy IMO.
He's cheap, those look like a good buy!

I'd buy from him in a heartbeat, without any confirmation as he is active, provides good suggestions to others, and is an integral part of this forum.

I don't know him at all...

He's the real deal, however.

I am surprised Freezin didn't just but those wheels, maybe he will.

"Sent PM" happened 14 hours after add was placed.

If my 914 was flared he would have had a PM from me 2 hours after he posted that, glossy wheels and all...

He had sold them while I was at work. All good here. I think there were a good buy.

People need to stop being bullies on this site. Reason why newbies don’t stick around is because they get treated like this. BTW we were all newbies at one point! If you don’t want to get ripped off by a scammer then buy locally and pay cash face to face! Stop with the unwarranted judgments. Get over it and move on!!!

FWIW, I can vouch for this seller. He responded to my WTB post for a single 6x15 Fuchs on Pelican. The wheel I got was as good or better than what the pictures showed and was packed well and shipped quickly. And a fair price too.

With all of the scammy crap that goes on I understand being cautious but we were all "newbies" once and just because we don't post prolifically doesn't mean we're trolls. Don't be gullible but don't be a dick to a fellow enthusiast either.

Daniel, good luck with your sale.

Zuffenwerker welcome.png this site is actually a great group of people, even though they might come on a bit strong, they certainly mean well. If I could ever call someone I’ve never met in person a friend, it’s the members of 914World.

I think there is a reasonable middle ground here. Help a newbie become another valued member of this site while giving him some friendly tips on how he can move out of the newbie status without treating him like a criminal.

We are lucky on World. We fly under the radar as Porsche owners compared to the pelican site. Pelican has become so overrun by scammers, it’s hard to know who you are talking to.

I was a newbie not that long ago. I lurked, read, researched, but did not post a for sale ad as my first post. I commented, asked questions and did my due diligence. This has been coming up for quite a while, maybe increased during the lock downs. I do agree with the suggestions that you cannot post a sale ad until a certain count is reached. I do not recall what Andy's response to that was.

A single response stating "I know Daniel and he's a good guy" would have saved me some time.

A response from the OP that wasn't a complaint against a cornerstone member would have worked fine too.

I'm sorry if I came off as a "bully."
That wasn't my intent.
I did offer suggestions for the OP on how to improve the overall vib of the add.

The way his stuff showed up, in another's WTB add, looked more scammer than not IMO.

His wheels look better than any 16X6 I've seen in the 2 months I've been on here.

Whoever did the refurbish job was a master. These wheels look new!

All the newbie posts in the garage get complete support from knowledgeable members that will spoon feed the OPs the best information available on the web.
This is one of the best car forums I have joined.

Most of the Honda/JDM websites are useless.
Believe it or not, the very best forums are the RV forums.
It directly depends on the average age of the posters, I'm guessing the average age of posters here is over 50...

OP, please accept my apologies if I came off too strong.

Welcome to the forum!
Your wheels are gorgeous and appear to be priced properly.
GLWS.

No offense intended to the seller but I have first hand knowledge from 2 people locally the were just bitten within the last 30 days. One had their email hacked, a confidence man was able to convince the businesses banker that he was a new partner and was authorized to transfer funds. Two transactions of approx. 125k each before it as discovered. The second was a purchase of a truck. The scammer had the paperwork from a closed business, copy of a title, copy of the stamped VIN tag and a video of the truck. Wire transferred 25k and the scammer vanished. So ya were a little bit cautious.

just to add to forum knowledge and an idea of the market these sold for only $850 on ebay!

Thank you for sharing. Would you happen to know the name of the shop that restored them in CA?

My guess is fuchsrestoration.com

Some of the wheel restorers have different level of gloss.
