Great color!

Adding context here. Acquired this 10yr ongoing project from burton73 after his other project, 41, was finishing up by PMB. Bob originally intended to do a V8 convert, thus the rear reinforcement structure, with this blue teener. After finally getting 41, he thought would be better If I take over with my vision of a stock looking 914-4 .
I acquired a used Raby type 4 2.3 with 901 tranny and tangerine exhaust exactly a year ago. Bob had the blue tub on a rotisserie for many years prepped waiting for reassembly with the many saved parts. We slapped on most of the parts and got engine/tranny installed to get car into roller condition. Got it ready in time for Eric and Larry from PMB pick it up after delivering Bob's 41 last December.

Well a year later and!

Eric at PMB and Mark Sonners are hoping that my old car set for V8 build, and now has a 2270 RAT built Eng. from 2007 and then rebuilt by me, Mark and George at European Motor Works will be ready for Route 66 this year. Hope so! This is a RAT 180HP or so build

Eric sent Mark some pictures and I am posting them. This car was a 3.2 6 conversion when I bought it without the Eng and trans back in 2008 ot 2009 from Camp 914. I had a triple master cylinder set up to use for my V8 eng set up and 930 Trans, and Eric undid all of that as well as put back the rear trunk back to when I bought it. The two-tone front and rear trunks were Eric and Marks idea. Race car body in white and team colors for the rest.

PMB has done the full PMB job and it should be a very nice car.

Best Bob B Burton

Eric at PMB sent me this picture of trick (Very interesting headlights going in Marks car.)

LED headlights with halos for driving lights that also act as turn signals?. Driving lights are the same. Eric says.

On the Rubber for the wheels, Eric says,
"Hard to believe she has the same rubber as what’s on my 911. Actually wider up front."
E's Carrera is very nice

Wheels are deep 6s x15 and deep 7s 15 rear , PMB came up with the wheels

Mark,
I just saw your name on the RT66 list. Are we gonna see your very beautiful blue 914 there?
densible1
Hey Mike I sure hope so. Up to PMB to wrap up blue car build and road test in the next couple of weeks. They have been working on it these last 17mos. Worst case will just have to come with just the Red 997 Targa , like always. If the stars align right will have Blue Car and my son Nick will bring Red Targa. Looks like Bob is bringing his 928 this year in any case.
See u there

Great score/investment on the foundation for this project. I have a ‘73 2.0 in Ravenna green (but Olympic blue is my fav 914 color). Project coming along nicely!

I bought this car from Craig at camp 914 around 17 years ago. One of our members on 914world told me he had pictures of my car before it was repainted and wanted to know if I would like some pictures. The car was found in the Palm Springs desert area. It's nice to see what the car looked like before it had been paint so many years ago.

There are so many cars today that guys are selling that have hidden rust popping up through them and then people just paint them and they look shiny and OK to the eye of the average person. They really aren't fixed up right underneath. That rust is just going to pop up later. This paint job was more than 15 years ago and it looks very good.

This car was painted with a Fiberglas rear lid and I changed it out to a no rust rear lid because the FG was too thin and if you touched it, it bent under finger pressure.

PMB has done some touch up but for the most part the cars paint on the panels is as it was.

@burton73 Nice car! I love the look of the Fuchs w/no center caps. Subtle, racy "declaration of intent" biggrin.gif

I was just going over this with Mark S an hour ago. He says he want caps. That is easy enough. The wheels are good copies of, on front Deep 6s x 15 and rears 7r’s. That really is kind of a deep 7. Going with a 4.5 spare with a tire from a Spacesaver from a MB SLK
Mark is planning on driving this blue boy back from PMB in UT to Hermosa Beach CA after the 350 mile shakedown near PMB, then Vale Adjustment and oil change.

I painted my engine compartment white, nice and bright when working on the engine. Very nice job restoring the car!

Word on the Blue Boy or what we are calling this car. From Mark Sonners, Eric took blue boy home over weekend put 100 miles on. Says runs and handles super, pulls very strong and sounds sweet. Back at shop for some adjustments the extended break-in this coming weekend I’ll be good to go check it middle of next week

Insert picture of The Blue Boy (c. 1770) is a full-length portrait in oil by Thomas Gainsborough, owned by The Huntington in San Marino, California.

History
One of Gainsborough's best known works, The Blue Boy was long thought to be a portrait of Jonathan Buttall (1752–1805), the son of a wealthy hardware merchant, because of his early ownership of the painting. This identification has never been proven and as Susan Sloman argued in 2013, the likely sitter is Gainsborough's nephew, Gainsborough Dupont (1754–1797)

First saw this painting back in Elementary school trip with Pinky course.

Also had to play the Blue Boy by John Fogerty

Posting for Mark Sonners. This blue boy is basically finished up, Mark is going to fly out do some test drive out there in Salt Lake City area them bring him back home.
I'm personally really happy to see this car finished. I envisioned this as a 400HP Corvette V8 with 930 turbo Carrera transmission 15 years ago but life had different plans.

Mark Sonners review of the build of his 2270 after the drive over 2 days from Salt Lake City Utah (At PMB Performance to Hermosa Beach CA) –

Text to me from Mark:---
Purring like a kitten 120 miles out at lower elevation like Eric said it would running cool cruising 80-100 23miles/g.

340 miles today very hot most of the way Cajon pass was bad but no heating issues . The car has zero twitch at any speed all bumps are absorbed by suspension the body stays really stable probably better than the targa. The steering is really fast reacts instantly to any input

Blue ran cool here next to pool 108 here

Yes total and reset trip total. Gets
Data thru blue tooth connection to a sender on the tranny

Yeah early start so I can get some snaps in. Car really smooth precise tracking at 100 no bobbing or weaving reacts instantly to inputs could be smoother at high speed than Red Targa 911

Well this bad boy is done for the moment. Really happy that it turned out so well.

Best Bob B Marks best bud for 60 years. We are like brothers
