I got a new speedo cable and the boot for the trans end was missing?
Is this some cost savings or did they forgot it.

I called customer service at PP and they agree there should be a boot from their parts diagram.

I didn't tried screwing it into the trans angle driver yet.

I read in some old post they were threaded incorrectly.

I notice the packaging said source from Poland, hmmmm?

PP agree to order me another one. I hope I get the right one, fingers crossed.

Anyone run into these recent batch of Gemo speedometer cables?

I think the reason it has no boot is because of wing nut. I have a NOS one without the big nut and small end like the top. I will check the later one I have in the warehouse today.

Replacement Gemos never ( .....at one time ) had the correct aluminum nut.
The original nut had a collar that the boot attached to.
For a long time a boot was included on the cable but the nut had no collar to slip
over.
The two pictured in the original packages both have boots.....but no collar to attach to.

I bought a NOS Gemo cable from 914sixer.
This might be 20 years old as it had 04/03 on the package.
It's made in Germany and although the speedo drive nut does not have the correct collar the cover that is installed on the cable definitely fits over the nut tightly.

So, mine is not perfect NOS Porsche but it should work fine.

This thread made me check mine out as I thought "Oh, damn! I'm going to have to do something regarding the cover."

I went to warehouse and have two different speedo cables. One is the later in red bag and the other is a 80's in yellow box.

The single boot on your cable seals the cable where it enters the tunnel.

That was a brillant idea to put a wing nut there, NOT !!!???

There is a NOS one over on the Pelican 914 right now.

Yup, my GEMO cable lacked a boot, and the threads on the wing nut were incorrect. I managed to cut some new threads and attach it. And I used 3M rubber tape to create my own boot.

I thought I would update my thread for members searching for this information.

So I got the cable from 914sixer in the previous post in the yellow box.

It was not quite what the original cable had. I made due with what I got.

Thank you Mark(914sixer) for sending me the cable.

I used the firewall rubber boot on the speedo drive end and used the smaller boot shown attached to speedometer and shoved it into the firewall hole and held it in place with some zip tie, gotta love zip ties right!

I attached my original speedometer cable for future reference.

Note: the crusty 50 year old masking tape wrapped on the speedo end to hold the screw from sliding down.
