Full Version: Brakes Sans Cover Plates

Am I correct in understanding:
  1. You can assemble the brakes without the cover plates
  2. The retaining bar is required even without the cover plates
  3. To install the cover plates requires removing the calipers
Best I can tell from the parts catalog and photos this is true, but I'd like confirmation I haven't overlooked something.

This is for a 1970 914-6 if it matters.

Yes, 1 & 2 are correct. 3 is a maybe as long as the bracket is in place.

When I redid my rear brakes I didnt put the backing plates on. I also did not use the bracket. I used washers the thickness of the bracket.
