Well they are vinyl, so no elephants were killed. But we finally found a vinyl that can be used to replace these.

Looks very nice. With that said, how many dinosaurs were killed to make the oil which was refined into the vinyl? Hahaha!

Rockefeller would disagree
And science would disagree with Rockefeller.
Oil is made from algae and plankton deposits from the Carboniferous and Permian, long before there were any dinosaurs.
There's also no fossilization involved in the process.
The (false) notion of "fossil" fuel and dinosaurs comes from the massive 1930's ad campaign of Sinclair Oil with their dinosaur mascot.

They milk the dinosaurs to make vinyl. So, the dinosaurs are not killed. Not sure how they feel about the whole thing. The panels look great. What carpet and seats go with elephant?

Who knew SirAndy was also a geologist? I just thought he was an expert in the identification and public shaming of scammers and poorly behaved forum members.... Those of us of a certain era will also remember the School House Rock cartoon that played primarily during the Sunday cartoons that helped to propagate the myth that oil came from dinosaurs. At a certain point I remember reading a poll of people from that era that showed that more than 40% of us thought oil came from dinosaurs.
And to get back on topic...Many thanks to Mark and everybody at 914Rubber for yet another product option!

The early, brick mold (looks like bricks stacked), The carpet is an industrial perlon. I'm working out a solution that is robust enough to hold up like the OEM

Looks like the thicker material used in 70. The 71 used “shiny leather” a thinner, smother looking material with a more reflective shine.

Are you sure? Like Rory said, all my ‘71’s have/had elephant hide. I have a tan interior from an early ‘70. I’ll dig it out.

Here’s an early 2 piece door panel. The vinyl has grain but isn’t elephant hide. There is no foam behind the vinyl. Came from a one owner car in NJ that rusted out. Had a lot of unique early ‘70 details.
Door pockets are also tan but the door pulls and door top bolsters are black. Factory two tone.

So the 71 that I have 4712902333 is definitely more like the 70 , it also matched the book for 71 as the 701 sample.
So my question is does anybody have a Vin number for the "dinosaur " skin??
I guess that's what I'd call it considering the grain is wider.
