Hey fellas...

Mechanic has said one of the injectors for my '73 2.0 is kaput, so my questions are;

1) Can they be rebuilt? if so, should i do all 4 or it doesnt matter, just do the one thats playing up.

2) If they cant be rebuilt, should I buy 4 new ones or again it doesnt matter and just buy the 1 i need?

3) if I replace, is this injector from Atlanta the best option?

and 4) Assume these are press fit? so i can remove and refit myself?

The short answer to your questions are yes, sometimes they can be refurbished. I would personally send them all out for refurbishment, and then replace the ones that are unusable with the FJ67 injector from Standard Motor. You might want to wait and see how many of your original injectors are fine....that way you might be able to keep the whole original set.

A lot of folks, including myself, send their injectors to "Mr. Injector" to be refurbished ....here:

That new FJ67 injector can also be purchased through Rock Auto,...here:

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/porsche...l+injector,6224

And you'll want to get new seals as well....here:

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/porsche...+/+o-ring,13679

...And you can do it yourself.....very easy. If you want some bathroom reading material....you can check this out:

Good Luck!

Cheers Craig, thats some good reading and seems like the FJ67's would be the way to go if any of mine turn out to be un-repairable.

Many thanks!!!

I've sent hundreds of injectors to mr injector - Bill. If he can't clean them and get them working correctly or they leak, he doesn't charge you. So you might as well send them out and see what happens.

I've done both. Mr. Injector first. As has been said, if they are not serviceable, there is no charge. I did that with several 1.7 injectors. He tested 8 and they all leaked and could not be fixed. No charge. I bought new from Rock Auto, also had to buy new bent hose and new seals. They've performed well so far after close to 1,000 miles.

I just picked up 2.0 injectors from Mr. Injector. 4 from my Bumblebee and 4 from a spare 2.0 73 motor I have. $176 total for the 8. They come back nicely packaged, with new seals and new hoses. The hoses have a spring in them so they don't kink.

I can report, since he is local and I have delivered and picked up from him, that he is super nice guy. The packaged injectors even have some candy in the bag.

Mr. Injector. A real guy named Bill who is the best!

Aww, c'mon--you get JOLLY RANCHER candy with your order!!

Do you have anyone in NZ that is really good with old fuel injectors? They'd be the first stop, I think. Sending all four is definitely the best idea, as yours are likely all the same age and have been subjected to very similar conditions. So there's a decent risk the others will stop behaving if you just leave them be. Also if the shop has all four, they can make sure the spray patterns and amounts are identical or as identical as practical.

The injectors are just held in by the rubber seals. The small inner ones locate the sprayer end of the injector in the manifold, and the large ones are what clamps the injector in place. Trivially easy to replace, unless the rubber sticks or the injector cap comes off.

Yep, have a guy who can take a look.. Hopefully its not broken therwise i'll have to replace them all (to be safe), and like everything else in this country, "its not available in NZ"... so that means extra freight etc.. Thanks for the advice.
