Dear Braintrust,

I put PMB-rebuilt rear calipers on my 1974 914-V8 conversion. I know nothing about the E/parking brake so any advice/links are much appreciated . . .

There seems to be no pawl in the e-brake handle mechanism (I bought a part here that I hope is correct) - nonetheless, when I engage the handle (which obviously does not lock in any engaged position but has some "stiction"), the rear brakes drag when I drive away and I smell pad wear.

Please advise.

Thank you!

Did you set the venting clearance on the rear calipers? That needs to be done first. With the handbrake down, the cables should not move the caliper levers. The adjustments are on the firewall for the cables. The procedure is pretty well documented in a Haynes 914 manual.
