I've always ran 225/16 and 245/16 tires on my flared 914. Typically 225/55/16 and 245/50/16 or sometimes 225/50/16 and 245/45/16. There used to be a ton of tire options and several good "max performance summer" tires to choose from. Now it seems there are 3 options in total for those sizes:

BFGOODRICH G-FORCE COMP-2 A/S PLUS

RIKEN RAPTOR ZR A/S

KUMHO ECSTA PA31

Fortunately none are that expensive, but also none are really great for a sports car never driven in the rain.

Or is there some place else to look? What tires are you running with 8" and 9" (or 7" or 8")?

The new tires that Eric picked out for my 16s. I think they look very good.

I am running Toyo Proxes RA1 in a 245-45-16 size front and rear on Fuchs 8x16 and 9x16. The new Yokohama A008P looks interesting. It resembles the old A008 from 30 years ago that I started autocrossing on with my 944 Turbo.

The problem is finding a performance tire in 245/16

One non rain friendly option i havent seen posted yet is the Yokohama A052 which is a sticky as hell 200TW track/autocross tire.

If you drop down to a 15" wheel you could get the BFG rivals in 245/40/15 but you do loose some sidewall height with those. Great tire though, they are what i autocross on.

If you went to 7" front 8" rear setup you would have quite a few more options in both 15 and 16 as 205/225 is a bit more common. Like i said the issue is finding anything at all in a performance tire in a 245 width.

I feel your pain Steve. I run 225/50/16's and 255/50/16's on 8's&9's
I am down to one tire choice. Wish Coker would buy the molds from Yokohama.

I went with the Dunlops listed above tooClick to view attachment

Well...at least the 944 guys will be in the same boat we are in. I have Yokohama tires on my big six, and the rears are starting to get thin.

I was running Firestone AS radials on my staggered wheels. All 225/50/16

Until I turned them into marshmallows at Watkins Glen. Not sure where I am headed next. The Yokohama's seem like a good compromise.

This was after the first day. They are a complete mess now.
