His series are pretty good. In my DVD rebuild set I cover the 901/902 and show how to do it at home with minimal tools. The setting of the pinion is tedious and takes special tools so that is why I never covered it. As he mentioned in part 1, the owner (Mike) took the transmission apart and he did not have the thickness of the original intermediate plate gasket recorded. This sets the pinion depth. However, anytime I change a bearing or other parts on the pinion, I check the depth with my gauge as I have seen it change and the tolerance is +/- 0.03mm.
The dimension he states in part 2 is for a 902, so dont use that on a later model mag case 901 or it will be very off.
If you plan to do the rebuild yourself, do yourself a favor and record the gasket thickness. If you want a step by step way of how to do it at home with minimal special tools needed, check out my DVD.
I have your DVD
and followed it to "rebuild" two without replacing any bearings, but I am interested in knowing more about the pinion depth adjustment. Very good to know the 902 dimension is different than the mag 901. Haven't had the chance to watch his part 2 yet...
