A 10 year old car in 82 was near EOL because salt and rust

I can confirm as I was a Kenmore Sq denizen in 82 and regularly scanned the weekly Autohunter (Want Adveritser) for teeners. That said it took me another 30 years to get one!

it's a near miracle any of them survived, especially in the Northeast

I remember many 914s early on where the right rear inner suspension console broke off, and the insurance companies actually paid to fix them saying it was collision damage! (back in 74-76)

I zoomed in on that.
I was a bouncer at “the rat” which is the bar behind the car.

Mid 80s

I recently took my wife to a hotel about 500 feet away and mentioned that.
The guy working there was a bartender….says hang on a sec.
Goes out back, brings me out a hat and shirt from “the rat” from the 80s

Loved that place.

I arrived here in 86, the Rat was on it's last legs - saw a few good bands there - Joe Jackson I believe was there - could have been the middle east - similar places - were bands go to start and to die......

A bouncer at the Rat? I am sure you checked my ID!

The Rat was The Rathskeller, which was always an odd name to me, considering.....
