Had the console out while replacing the fuel lines and putting it all back in I shorted a wire to the gauges and melted a bunch of the brown ground wires. I opened up the bundle and removed all the old wires and replaced them. Rewired the gauges and all work well, including the lighting but the volt meter vibrates.

I added two gauges to the console and a fan switch years ago and not sure that everything is grounded the way it was.

Any ideas?

Disconnect it. Attach it to a 9 V battery and see if it still wiggles. Be careful if you attach it to your car battery. I accidentally shorted a car battery years ago. The wrench flew out of my hand & I was badly burned. Time for a new meter if it still wiggles.

Okay, that would tell me if it's the gauge for sure. I'm suspecting it may be grounded wrong, or through another instrument. As I recall some of those ground wires are "daisy chained"
