Hi all, hope we're having a good week so far!

I have a '73 with the spare tire air pressure washer system.

The cap (See pictures) is supposed to let air through to pressurize the water bottle right, but when I connect mine up (the air free flows through the tubes from the spare tire), there's no air coming through the cap.

I've left the cap on and everything connected up to "give it time" to build up pressure, but nothing. It seems like there's a blockage or something in the cap is stopping the air from getting into the bottle.

Thoughts here guys?

screw cap has a check valve in it.
spring operated.
closes when spare tyre pressure drops below a certain amount.

sounds like the check valve isn't operating and its jammed closed or frozen - not letting air through.

never dealt with a bad one so not entirely sure what you do.
if you can't free up the check valve try buying a new cap.
usually you can get them via VW aftermarket parts suppliers i think.

if you have a sonic cleaner try giving the cap a session in it.
might free it up if that is what the problem is.

get ready to blow all the hoses off left right and centre once you pressurize the bottle.
the first one to go will be the one connected up in the steering column to the operating lever. it will piss water all over you and leave you looking like you have a geriatric bladder problem. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Yeah, soak the cap in warm water. That should free it up.

Thanks fellas!

Will try and soak in some hot water, see if that works. Ill have the sponges at the ready for the inevitable onslaught of water!!!
