Our state's DMV has a web site where you can check vanity plate availability and what it looks like on all the various plates offered. We also have a 7 character limit.
For a few years we actually allowed obscenities but for some reason we can nt have numeral only plates. (hence the "A")

Where I live, I'm pretty sure that the spacing you use on the request form isn't actually maintained when they create the plates. Any combination of _73_914 or 73_ _ 914 or 73_914_ would actually be printed as "73 914" centered on the plate. Not sure if the same would be true in other municipalities.

I asked for this 914 6 GT. Wisconsin only lets you have 7 letters or numbers. So I used 6 but asked for two spaces. Got it. The hyphen is black electrical tape. Best, MarkClick to view attachment

My father had them on his cars since I was in high school. When he passed away, they were on the SUV that he left to me. I transferred them to my 914-6 conversion. I will be keeping them.
Before then, I was considering these:
