Those are the rear trunk/luggage compartment light. Porsche did use them on 911s for license plate lights. The license plate lights were different. They had 2 styles early 70-74 91463160100 (top image) , late 75-76 91163162004 (bottom image).

Yep. And I've seen 2 different versions of the late style. Both are the same exact shape but one didn't have the "blackout" over 1/2 of the lens.
