I have a neat, old steering wheel in a Beetle I own. Are the splines on a 914 steering shaft compatible with the splines on a 66 Beetle? Thanks!

I grabbed the steering shaft from my 74 and the wheel from my 64 and it was hand in glove. A couple pics

Does that wheel say "Abarth"?

It might be seriously valuable...

Found one similar on an internet search.

For that same price I bought a 930 Turbo S wheel (New) from Burton73 like this.

Bob's had a new 356 Crest worked into it.

And I had the same issue with "will it fit". It does!

That wheel might be more valuable than you think...

That's good news! Thanks for taking the time to check. I figured that since it's a VW product, the chances were pretty good.

The wheel is in a pretty special car. A 66 Beetle that was extensively modified when new, in Germany. I've seen one other wheel like it and it was mounted to a 904 Carerra GTS. I didn't know the 911R connection. Very interesting.

Thanks for the info.

Cool cars I had a 66 euro-spec ,1yr only till the 1500 in 69 ,front disk brakes ,1500 bigger window body but still had the old style bumpers but with factory overriders ,4 stud wheels ,all factory after researching it .
The guy bought it off had no idea what it was worth and because it had lots of rust I got it for $500 less engine .
Fixed the rust with typical floorpan work and replaced the whole back section under the rear seat back up to rear window , found a good single port 1600 and fitted that with twin ICT Webers and performance exhaust and it went great.
Cheers.
