no, you're not an idiot ... biggrin.gif
that was actually it, it had a bunch of parts missing. looking at the pictures you posted i now know what parts are missing ...

the parts diagram is kind of misleading as it only shows 1 of each of the parts that go in there, which makes it easy to get confuzzled ...

The bird board has a little 911 brake wizard that might help too. I know its what I use for my 911 e-brake.

did you figure out the cables?

cables will be easy, i'm going to mate the 911 cables to the 914 cables.
think big industrial strength "Lüsterklemme" ...

but now i'm having a different problem, just cleaned up the ebrake assy and the holes don't line up with the holes in the trailing arm!
ohmy.gif
not even close ...

but from the posted pictures it looks like they should line up.
what am i missing here?

Will someone show the admin how to search the "Classics Threads"? rolleyes.gif

I moved my cable mount below as per the factory cars with that setup (below, not the mount) I cut off the mount with a Dremel and a carbide wheel. Then test fit the e-brake and lined up the mount and welder.gif

I ground off the area where the mounts were and it was un-noticable. With the 911 ends you need to have the mount there to fix the sheath to. It's (the sheath) what you use to adjust the tension.

Is this making sense? It's late and I just finished my Woodford's Reserve. blink.gif

Here's some pics (that look an aweful lot like those others posted above) biggrin.gif

Nudder (the before sandblasting shot). This is where I test fit the hat and ran a cable through the mount and tacked it into place.
Eric_Shea
Timo ran his below. There was a guy in New Zealand (I think) that ran his through the rear caliper access hole (if'n that's what you're trying to do). I believe he had to do some welding to get it to work though.

The factory ran the hats with the cable below:
SirAndy
yeah, i *know* all this ^^^ stuff ...

but the 4 holes don't line up with the 4 holes in the trailing arm!

You have late model e-brake assemblies.

They switched in 74 to the larger bearing and hence, larger hole pattern for the e-brake. You need something pre 74 or you simply need to drill out those holes. Pre-74 would be best because they have the caps and all.

I've had them side-by-side. Late model for sure.
SirAndy
here's a pic ...
echocanyons
What year did you get them from?
I think the later year 84> were different and were not compatible with the 914 trailing arms
Eric_Shea
Yup... confirmed

ahhhh, shite ...

gotta do another run to EASY on monday ...

SirAndy
will the rest of the assy work? in other words, is just the backing plate different?

i'd hate to have to get all that stuff again, now that i cleaned it all up ...

Eric_Shea
Yea the rest should work.

Take your bearing cap with you.

You need something pre 74

yep... these came on 911's with steel trailing arms (the later ones are aluminium)

Hey Andy, let me know what you do with the cables. I have a set of 911 and 914 cables at home. I got my 911 brake stuff installed but havn't worked on the cables yet (had to go back up to school).

If your using M rear calipers then you'll need about 5-6mm spacers for the caliper.
