search Pelican... lots of carb experience there to benefit from
used to be paul abbot had a great article written up on how to baseline carbs for the tuning process. I think Performance oriented sold, so not sure if that article is still up

Your question is vague but here’s a great side with good technical info.

thanks, Paul is in the process of moving and mostly shut down for a (hopefully) short time. I have combed his website and not found what I have been looking for,

there must be an inspection procedure for checking the throttle shaft/housings fit? Other than many complaints of this, I have not found a method for checking other than wiggling the shaft when the motor is running.

Sealed bearings vs bushings minimize leakage

If bushed the answer is zero play beyond that to allow free rotation (approx 0.001-.002”). Measure with dial indicator - no guessing allowed

Or feel free to set up a flow bench and measure leakage. av-943.gif

Oh - on running engine, starting fluid much more definitive than just wiggling and waiting for air to bleed and make it lean. Be careful! blowtorch.gif

Pelican post from Paul Abbot

Seems to consider .008” as upper limit.

My answer above based on machinist tolerance for loose slip fit.

just scroll down.

Thank you, all of this information is good. The engine these are fitted to is a fresh stock 2.7. From what I can tell 34mm or 32's venturis will work well. I do not want to be too large.

IDTP"s have a stepped idle mixture screw and port.. smog 3bbl. Can be converted to IDA"s, or live with it .

The Webers I have are 40IDT 3C and 3C1. The information was looking for was found here: http://p914-6info.net/PDFs/914-6%20Fuel%20System.pdf

The link above includes verbiage stating "No light should be visible around any of the throttle valves" Exactly what I was looking for.

I have been running Webers for many years on 356's, 914's and Alfa spiders. None have probably been dialed in exactly, but good enough to provide decent performance with a decent MPG. I look at plug color and have never used an AFR gauge.

Thank you

FYI
Paul is moving but told me he expects to be operational late March or so.
I believe he sold part of business (Solex) but retained Weber part.
Hoping this is accurate but what I understood and saw post from buyer.

As far as I know the throttle shafts run in the castings with a teflon lining?

Does Paul rebush with a bronze oilite or something similiar?

These guys also have a class they offer (or atleast used too), tons of information in the class. It is geared more for the Weber 3 throat Carbs found on the 911's not sure if the 3V has the same design though. Say what you want about carbs but for the flat six there was no performance equal until ITB's came out.
