There are four circle spring clips that hold the two spring loaded pins in place at the base of the gear shift lever.

You can get circlips are homedepot or ACE hardware.
Does HD and Ace have metric clips?? 
Yes.
Not only did having a spare printer get a free cir clip - it saved us a trip to the store -thus more time to drink beer
