What activates the reverse light switch on the side of the transaxle?
Is there something in the transmission that hits the switch and makes it turn on or is there some other switch near the shifter?
It seems to be dependent on where I shoved the shift lever for reverse gear?
If I shift in and out of reverse, I get lights and sometimes I don't.
Bad switch???
Thanks for the help.

Take the switch off, I believe there is a nylon rod that activates it, probably worn down a bit.
You can also jumper the switch and have someone watch the lights to be sure they come on nice & bright (checks for loose/broken wires)

I would guess the switch took a dump? I don't think there are any moving parts.

Here's a vid you should check out. When Dr. Evil rebuilt my transmission, he did a vid on replacing the pin that activates the reverse light switch.
