So did I install the filter incorrectly to cause this.
It is a Mann filter with about 2000 miles.

I'd look carefully at both sides of the housing. Might be age warped.
Test the fit without an air filter installed. Any area look closer than the others?
It's pretty easy to cut that. I see cheapy oil change shops botch air filter installs all of the time.
It's REALLY annoying when one of the monkeys BREAK the housings due to incompetence.
