Am I going blind? The two pictures don't show the same material. Yes?

They are not the same brand. George is telling you that his are made of Dinamat. Dinamat has Bk Wolds all over it in less it changed. Now his may be made of the very same specification. But I'm not going to pissing match over it. Let’s just assume that

“you can get anything you want at Alice's restaurant. Accepting Alice.”

No, really George at AA has a lot of 914 stuff. He has a way, Subtle way of telling us.

Good guy and he will answer all your 914 questions at any time. It is one of the great pleasures of his life. So everyone take him up on his open offer to help you with your questions

I've been buying from George for almost 20 years now. Regarding noise suppression, the thicker the material the better. It's like sheet rock without any insulation underneath.
NARP74
For George, it's called advertising and marketing...
And it's Excepting Alice... can't get her.

I can't promise you that this is EXACTLY what this particular person used in his engine bay, but it's something very similar to this:

I feel like you could do the same thing with some cheap heat mat from Amazon like this, but I've not tried it.

Finally someone answered the simple question the OP asked.
Steve
I would love to put a pad back their, but there was surface rust underneath the last one. If someone can guarantee no rust with a pad, then I will install one.
partwerks
Could put that Lizard Skin, I think it's called there.
fixer34
Just remember, you have the equivalent of a large vacuum cleaner nozzle pretty close to that pad, so make sure it is well secured.
Superhawk996
Dynamat publishes data on noise attenuation of their materials.

Without data - it’s just unverified marketing claims.

914Rubber sells, or used to sell, an almost-exact-match-to-original replacement engine firewall padding that doesn't absorb/hold moisture -- I installed a piece on the "dapo special" 3 years ago. I just looked on their web site, but couldn't find it ( @Mikey914 ? ) .

I studied acoustics in grad school from the guy who overhauled Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center. Much depends upon the frequency bandwidth of the noise. It's not all about acoustics, but also mechanical vibration. The later is almost impossible to kill depending upon how it propagates through the structure.
Geezer914
I used Dynamat on the firewall and installed the silver backpad overtop. Much lighter than the original.
bkrantz
On the engine side of my firewall, I used a foil-covered closed-cell foam, so that it does not retain any water.

I installed a 914Rubber engine pad on my six. It made a difference inside the cab.

Actually doing another run now. Will have listed up shortly.

Dude, you can't even make that guarantee with PAINT.

I will say that the modern pads that don't hold water are less likely to add rust, and make a significant difference to in-cabin noise.

I shot LizardSkin (2 layers of their sound deadener and 1 of their ceramic insulation) on the inside of the firewall. Engine bay side is going to remain bare, which was stock for a 72.

We used Raptor tinted to the body color for Taylor's car. Then if you put a pad on it, it will not rust. Wanted to see how much sound deadening it offered 1st. BTW did both inside and outside as well as floors. No tar going back on those.
rhodyguy
914s are treated differently now than 2nd or 3rd owners in the late 70s early 80s. Who runs open cell batteries and parks their 914s to the elements in 2024? Lives with leaking seals? No one. Owners are fixing rot, not promoting it.

How many pieces are there to the AA offering? What’s with what appears to be slits in installed product?

agree.gif but without a pad, I can clean the area and look for rust versus rust hiding under a pad i glued on.
NARP74
I think the new pads are stiffer and lighter and might not even need to be glued on. If you have the perimeter hold downs and the couple of hardware pcs, like 914 rubber sells, you might be OK. Be easier for inspection. I am not sure if it sags over time or heat cycles. This is on my list, maybe someone with experience can chime in.
